“Empowering
people to make a difference in all aspects of their lives,
Growing communities of hope and hospitality”
Purpose:
To provide a places and times of community characterized by hospitality
and care, where people can
- Face fears and find freedom to be more fully themselves.
- Get in touch with their spirits, their spiritual anchors and
their dreams;
- Grow the courage and practical skills to take forward those
dreams, exercise effective leadership in all areas of their lives
and make a positive difference for those for whom they have a
concern – at home, in their workplaces, communities and
in the wider world
Living Well provides opportunities for those who are desiring
to grow in relational wholeness and develop an understanding
of their own spirituality. Some activities focusing on spiritual
directions come with a particular Christian focus. Other activities
inviting reflection on one’s spirituality and place in
the universe are designed to invite people from any background
to think more intentionally about these issues without seeking
to place any particular framework over these experiences.
We are seeking to take first steps towards a Christian spirituality
center that can benefit people in the Blue Mountains and beyond.
Core philosophies at the heart of Living Well Blue Mountains
include:
*A commitment to people who are hurting, to providing spaces
for them to grow in wholeness, empowerment, community and justice
*The importance of dwelling with the land and living in
sustainable ways with the environment and world of which we are
a part
*The importance of thinking and acting both locally and
globally
Integration of psychological processes and spiritual foundations
*The importance of seeking the wholeness of others rather
than simply personal fulfillment, tranquility and well being
*To work in collaboration with other agencies and groups
in our community
Out
of little things big things grow…
… I believe that two or three gathered together, in prayer and
commitment
can reinvent the world. I spend my entire life repeating that…
-Brother Roger, Taize community
Once upon a time there was a mighty river. It
flowed gracefully and elegantly across the landscape. Along its banks it gave
life and sustenance to the tribes of Aboriginal Australians who camped by it.
Over many generations this river was a central focus for life. Then, gradually,
the river ceased to flow, becoming a stagnant pool. With the heat of summer
it started to dry up.
Around the banks of the disappearing symbol of their security, the people stood
aghast. What could be happening to them? By the dried up river bed many still
sat, waiting for the river to flow once more...
Yet others thought to look around and discovered that the river was not gone.
Still flowing, it had simply changed course upstream, creating a billabong
on the curve at which they sat.
Do we, in contemporary Australia, have the vision to discern the life giving
Spirit of God in our midst? To see where the river flows?
